Mediawiki quickguide
From IT Unit
To add an entry, search for the term you'd like to define. An article or definition may already exist, which you may wish to expand by editing. If the term doesn't exist, click the option "create this page."
To edit an existing entry, click "edit" at the top of the page, then follow the following directions.
- Whether you have clicked "edit" or "create an entry," an editing box will appear. Buttons that will allow you to bold, italicize, etc. appear at the top of this box.
- Enter your text. You may copy-and-paste your definition from a document you have written into the editing box.
- Preview your text by clicking "Show Preview" at the bottom of the page. A preview panel will appear above your editing box.
- Click “Save Page” when you are satisfied with your entry.
Tip: It is recommended that you copy-and-paste your text into Notepad, then copy-and-paste it into the editing box. This will ensure your text is unformatted.

Bold & Italic
Each time you highlight and format a word, term, or sentence, code will appear around the highlighted characters in the editing box. For example, this sentence:
Life Sciecnes Faculty Visit the Life Sciences Faculty at www.tau.ac.il/lifesci.
Looks like this in the editing box:
Life Sciecnes Faculty Visit the Life Sciences Faculty at www.tau.ac.il/lifesci.
To bold: Highlight words you wish to bold, then select the button with a capital "B" from the upper left.
To italicize: Highlight words you wish to italicize, then select the button with an italicized capital "I" from the upper left.
To link to another page within LSITU Wiki: highlight the word you wish to link, then click the internal link button, which has the letters "Ab" underlined. Tip: If a word in your text has red dots underlining it, a definition already exist. Highlight the term and click the "Ab" button to link to that definition. If you think a term should be defined, highlight it and click the "Ab" button. This creates a blank page associated with that term. This may encourage another participant to define the term.
Headings
To create headings, insert equal signs (=) around text in the editing box:
Heading Level 1
Heading Level 2
Heading Level 3
Heading Level 4
Heading Level 5
Looks like this in the edit box:
Heading Level 1 == === Heading Level 2 === ==== Heading Level 3 ==== ===== Heading Level 4 ===== ====== Heading Level 5 ====
After four headings, a table of contents will automatically generate.
Bullets
To create bullets, insert an asterix (*) in the editing box where a bullet should appear. Add an additional asterix to tab in:
- First bullet
- Second bullet
- Bullet tabbed in
Looks like this in the edit box:
*First bullet *Second bullet **Bullet tabbed in
Numbering
To create numbering, insert the pound sign (#) in the editing box where a number should appear. To tab in a number, add more pound signs:
- First number
- Second number
- Number tabbed in
Looks like this in the edit box:
#First number #Second number ##Number tabbed in
Links within this wiki
To link to a page within this wiki, place double square brackets around the word you want to link:
Looks like:Biocluster_Use_Policy
If you want the display text of the link to have a different title, you can do so by adding the pipe "|" divider followed by the alternative name. For example:
Biocluster Use Policy
You can also link to a specific section of a page:
Looks like:display text
Links Outside of this wiki
To create a link to a location outside of this wiki, use square brackets and the complete URL of the link:
Tel-Aviv UniversityTel-Aviv University
Making a Minor Edit
Check the "minor edit" box to signify that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: typo corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content, etc. A minor edit is a version that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute.
