Since 1999, the Zomes Meetings have been held about once every two years. "Zomes" is the one meeting deidicated to the 3 PCI complexes, the CSN, proteasome lid and eIF3.

The first meeting was held under the desire to bring the Arabidopsis, human cell and yeast researchers together who had just started publishing on the CSN and proteasome lid, together with the established eIF3 researchers. What started out as a naive question between Danny Chamovitz and Michael Glickman, "If we organize a meeting to bring everyone together, do you think anyone would come?", grew into ZOMES I, where everyone invited did come! As we were so few at the time, the meeting was augmented with scientists working on other protein complex issues. The great achievement of ZOMES I was the unified nomenclature for the CSN.

ZOMES II was supposed to be have been held again in Israel again in 2001. However, middle east politics being what they are, the 2nd Intifada interefered and ZOMES II was moved to a lovely "Turkish Riviera" resort. Never have we been better fed at a ZOMES! Zomes II was characterized by new scientists working on "JAB1" (what we call CSN5), lots of signaling pathways, and the famous deneddylation studies.

Some how, we don't have a group photo from Zomes III! Zomes III was held at a resort in the farm land outside of Berlin.

For Zomes VI, we traveled across the Atlantic for the first time to New Haven, CT (the site of the 1st CSN purification....). This exciting meeting added alot of work on CRL complexes to the zomes meetings.

Zomes V continues westward across the Pacific Ocean to Yokohama Japan. Zomes V was so far the largest meeting and had alot of excellent structural studies.
