A meeting with Prof. Karen Avraham

Some bullit points:

  • Startup funds: the part of your startup package coming from the VPR, as well as additional funds approved by the president, are "hard wired" for equipment only. The portion coming from the faculty may be more flexible (reagents, salaries), though this may vary between faculties.
  • Guest lecturer: some people begin their position as a "guest", while others get their first appointment (lecturer or senior lecturer) on day one. This is an outcome of when the appointment process, which can take >6 months, was started.

  • Students:
    • You never know on day one...
    • Work within the limitations of each person
    • Networking & training abroad for students can help; There are some specific fellowships for that (Constantiner?)
